  46. The SuperMatch Cinepak decompressor may not be redistributed by
  47. users of Aris products without a valid license agreement from SuperMac
  48. Technology. They can be reached at (408) 245-2202.

  50. Choosing the full installation in the SETUP.EXE program provides much better
  51. performance than choosing to install just the launcher program. However,
  52. doing so adds about 1.5 MB of files to your hard drive.
  53.  
  54. You must have Windows version 3.1 or later to use our navigational
  55. program. We have discontinued distributing our MS-DOS non-Windows version,
  56. though you can still use the image files on the CD in a DOS application if
  57. you have a program that can display them.
  58.  
  59. The disc you have in your CD-ROM drive contains two complete
  60. versions of Props (tm): one for Macintosh, the other for the
  61. PC.  Your CD-ROM driver is smart enough to figure out which one
  62. you view, so sit back and enjoy.

  64.  
  65. WINDOWS USERS
  66. -------------
  67.  
  68. Every attempt has been made to provide MPC-compatible content,
  69. both in images (BMP format) and sound (WAV format).  A Windows
  70. navigational program can be found in the root directory of the disc.
  71. You may install part or all of the software (with the exception of the
  72. photos and music) to the hard drive by using the SETUP.EXE program. To do
  73. so, choose RUN from the FILE menu of the Windows Program Manager and type
  74. D:\SETUP, where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.  Installing
  75. everything to the hard disk provides MUCH better performance, however, it
  76. will add about 2 MB of files to your hard drive. Buttons in the Windows
  77. program may be used with a mouse or with the TAB and ENTER keys. The
  78. TAB key moves from button to button, and the ENTER key selects.
  79. Standard Windows help is available--just press the button labeled
  80. "?" on the "Control Panel" (button bar) in the program.
  81.  
  82. Keep in mind the following requirements for Windows users:
  83.  
  84. 1.  You must have either Windows version 3.1.
  85.  
  86. 2.  You must have an MPC-compatible sound card to hear the music. Boards
  87. from Creative Labs (the SoundBlaster Pro), Media Vision (Pro Audio 
  88. Spectrum), and many other vendors have been tested for compatibility with
  89. this product.

  91. 3.  Still pictures were meant to be displayed with a 256, 32K, 64K,
  92. or 16M color 640 x 480 Windows driver. Such drivers are available 
  93. direct from your video board's manufacturer. Drivers for many 
  94. brands are also included in Aris's "MPC Wizard."  You must have 
  95. at least 512K of video RAM. Use Windows Setup to change your 
  96. driver.
  97.  
  98. 4. Movie playback requires installation of the Video for Windows
  99. runtime, which can be found in the VFW directory.  Just go to the
  100. File Manager of Windows, then launch the SETUP.EXE program in the
  101. VFW directory.  
  102.  
  103. 5.  If the sound breaks up, try to increase the buffering done by Windows.
  104. To do this, go to the Main Window, select Control Panel, then select 
  105. Drivers.  Double click on the MCI Sound selection and move the slider to
  106. 9 seconds of buffering.  If this doesn't entirely solve the problem,
  107. you may need to increase the memory buffering in the MSCDEX statement in
  108. your AUTOEXEC.BAT using the /m: switch.  Try increasing it to 16 or 20. See
  109. also the Windows help file PROPS.HLP for more troubleshooting tips. You
  110. can launch the file from the ? icon in the Props Program
  111. Group in Program Manager or from the ? button in the program itself.
  112.  
  113. 6.  Movie performance varies, based on the caliber of your installed 
  114. hardware.  Best performance is obtained from MPC-compatible CD-ROM drives,
  115. which are capable of transfering data at 150KB per second or greater.  
  116. You can test the performance of your drive with the MPC Wizard(tm).

  118.  
  119. DOS (NON-WINDOWS) USERS
  120. -----------------------
  121.  
  122. If you have Windows 3.1, we strongly recommend use of our Windows
  123. navigation program. See above for details.
  124.  
  125. A DOS application called "PROPSCD" has been included to help find your
  126. way through the files.  To start the DOS version, type "PROPSCD" at the
  127. CD-ROM drive's DOS prompt.  Unfortunately, low-resolution versions of each
  128. picture are not available on this disc.  You will need a Sound Blaster card
  129. or 100% compatible to hear the music. 
  130.  
  131. The TAB key moves through the fields, and the ENTER key
  132. selects.  A mouse is also supported.  Best display quality is obtained
  133. with Super VGA video boards having 512K of video memory.  Most mainstream
  134. video boards are supported, but there are new ones every day.  The best
  135. solution to this problem is to use our Windows version.  Sound may be
  136. played if you have a Sound Blaster or compatible card--just select the
  137. Sound button in the application.  Remember, the PC was not designed as a
  138. multimedia machine, so this interface is not as robust as we would prefer.

  153. You may use the IMAGE ALCHEMY shareware program for two weeks
  154. without registering the software and paying the fee.  Please
  155. note, this program works well on all 640 x 480 or smaller
  156. images.  It offers many fine capabilities, such as
  157. conversion between many different formats, including Mac and PC,
  158. and it should find a home in your imaging utilities directories.
  159. The registered version will handle images larger than 640 x 480.

  162. DOS (Non-Windows) Version Tech Tips:
  163.  
  164. 1.  Try installing a VESA driver if you have a 512K VGA card and Image
  165. Alchemy doesn't recognize your video board. Such drivers usually come on
  166. a floppy diskette supplied by the manufacturer.
  167.  
  168. 2.  Use the LOWRES program if you don't have 512K of video memory.
  169.  
  170. 3.  Use our Windows interface.  It's really much nicer!

  176. There are 100 high-quality still images, 100 sound tracks, and 25 movies
  177. stored on this disc.  Images are stored in several formats for your
  178. convenience:

  180. 1.  24-bit TIF, in 640 x 480 format, for high resolution paint 
  181. programs and desktop publishing, in the TIFF directory. Users with 
  182. Hi-Color or True-Color cards may view these images with programs 
  183. capable of 24-bit image display.

  185. 2.  8-bit PCX, 640 x 480 format, for most DOS paint programs, in the
  186. PCX directory.
  187.  
  188. 3.  8-bit BMP, 640 x 480 format, for compatibility with Windows, in
  189. the BMPLARGE directory.

  191. 4.  8-bit BMP, 320 x 240 format, for high speed viewing, in the 
  192. BMPSMALL directory.
